Abbreviation: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test

                   NEET is conducted for 12th grade student who aspires to study MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) as there under graduation (UG).

NEET is specifically conducted for under graduation (UG) degree in Medical. NEET is a single entrance examination which is conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services. With NEET score the Government fills up the medical seats across India with the eligible students in both government and private medical colleges.

NEET benefits the government by identifying the eligible candidate for a medical seat in India. It benefits a medical aspiring student to get the seat in medical colleges according to their score in FIFO method. Prior to NEET, CBSE board conducted AIPMT (All India Pre Medical Test) as medical entrance test. Now NEET is conducted for all central and state board students by NTA (National Testing Agency).

Eligibility for NEET:

Three factors are considered as eligibility criteria for NEET.

  • Nationality
  • Age limit
  • Academic Qualification

Nationality Criteria:

Candidates who are under any of the following national criteria can apply for NEET.

  • Indian Nationals
  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)
  • Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs)
  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)
  • Foreign Nationals

Age Limit Criteria:

  • Candidates must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission (if the candidate appears for NEET 2020, the  candidate has to complete 17 years of age before December 31st,2020).
  • Upper age limit has been challenged in Supreme Court and depending upon the final verdict upper age limit will be finalized.

CATEGORIES ELIGIBILITY
For Candidates of General/General – EWS Born on or before December 31st, 2003
For Candidates of SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD

Academic Qualification:

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent.
  • Candidates must have Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology as their subjects in their Class XII.
  • Unreserved category candidates must have scored a minimum required percentage of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology in their Class XII.
  • SC/ST or Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates should have scored a minimum percentage of 40% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology.
  • Persons with loco motor disability of lower limbs must have secured a minimum of 45% marks for General-Physically Handicapped and 40% marks for SC-Physically Handicapped/ST-Physically Handicapped/OBC-Physically Handicapped in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology.

NEET Eligibility Criteria for NRI / Foreign Students

  • Candidates who have studied abroad and want admission in medical colleges in India must have passed in Chemistry, Physics, English and Biology/Biotechnology with 50% marks in Class XII and their equivalency is determined by the Association of Indian Universities as MCI regulations and the concerned university. 
  • This includes candidates who took the IB (International Baccalaureate)/GCSE/Advanced Placement curriculum in school.
  • IB candidates in India are also eligible for NEET 2020. 

ALL INDIA QUOTA ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

15% of the total seats are considered as All India Quota (AIQ) seats. An Online Counselling for NEET will be conducted by Medical Council Committee (MCC) for the candidates who seeks admission through All India Quota. There will be two rounds of counseling and seats will be filled accordingly under All India Quota.  Incase if there are any remaining seats left under All India Quota, those seats will be converted into State Quota Seats. In All India Quota there will be equal number of names as seats as per the merit list and the merit listed candidates will be allocated seats directly. Waitlisted candidates will be guided by the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) for next steps.

Other candidates apart from Indian nationals that are OCI, NRI, PIO and Foreign Nationals are also eligible to participate in this 15% All India Quota.

Candidates from the Union territories J&K and Ladakh are not eligible for 15% All India Quota seats as these two opted out of the All India Scheme. Therefore, to claim eligibility candidates have to submit online self-declaration form. This self declaration generated form has to be submitted during counseling.

STATE QUOTA SEATS ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

85% will be filled through State Quota Seats. State Medical Council will conduct their counseling using their own merit list. This merit list will be prepared on many factors considering the candidates eligibility on the basis of permanent residence or domicile in the State.

  • Candidates must have completed/appeared in 10th and 12th class exam from the state.
  • Candidates should have valid address proof and permanent residence/domicile of the state.

Other candidates apart from Indian nationals that are OCI, NRI, PIO and Foreign Nationals are also eligible to participate in this 85% State Quota Seats.

Deemed private universities will conduct their own counselling procedures as per their criteria and candidates must apply for admission contacting the University directly after NEET.

For AFMC (Armed Forces Medical College) seat, candidate has to approach AFMC website and officials for further process after applying for NEET.

NEET 2020- Qualifying Examination Codes 

Qualifying Examination Codes
Code 01 This code is for 12th Standard candidates in 2020, whose result are awaited and are applying for the exam. These candidates must have qualified the class 12th exam by the time of admission, otherwise, they will be considered ineligible.
Code 02 Candidates who are in Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education have to put this code. 
Code 03 This code is for candidates who have done their Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science at an Indian University/Board or other recognized examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Biotechnology (which shall include practical test in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject. 
Code 04 Candidates who have completed their Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination have to choose this code. The Preprofessional/Pre-medical examination shall include practical tests in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.
Code 05 This code is for candidates who have completed the first year of the three years’ degree course of a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in these subjects provided the examination is a University Examination and candidate has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology with English at a level not less than a core course.
Code 06 Those who have taken B.Sc. examination from an Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Biotechnology and further that he/ she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English have to choose this code. 
Code 07 Candidates with have qualified any other examination which in scope and standard (Last 02 years of 10+2 Study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology; which shall include practical test in these subjects) have to choose this code. The exam should be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English.
